Empowering Rural Communities
In the heart of Kenya’s rural areas, we have partnered with local communities to address key challenges, enhance livelihoods, and create lasting change. Our initiatives are designed to be inclusive, ensuring that even the most marginalized populations have a voice and a stake in their own development.
1. Agricultural Development
Agriculture is the backbone of rural livelihoods in Kenya, yet many farmers struggle with outdated practices, poor yields, and market access issues. We have introduced modern farming techniques, provided access to high-quality seeds and fertilizers, and connected farmers with markets. In Busia and Siaya, these efforts have led to a 40% increase in crop yields, improving food security and boosting household incomes.
2. Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH)
Access to clean water and sanitation is fundamental to health and well-being. In Turkana and Kisumu, where water scarcity and poor sanitation are prevalent, we have constructed boreholes, installed water purification systems, and built latrines in schools and communities. Over 50,000 people now have access to clean water, leading to a significant reduction in waterborne diseases.
3. Education and Vocational Training
Education is a powerful tool for breaking the cycle of poverty. In Nairobi’s informal settlements and rural areas of Siaya, we have established schools, provided scholarships, and offered vocational training programs. Our efforts have enabled over 2,000 children to access quality education and equipped young adults with skills in carpentry, tailoring, and ICT, opening up new employment opportunities.
4. Healthcare and Nutrition
In regions like Turkana and Busia, where malnutrition and limited access to healthcare are critical issues, we have implemented nutrition programs and established mobile health clinics. These initiatives have provided essential healthcare services to over 30,000 people, including maternal and child health care, and have distributed nutritional supplements to combat malnutrition.
5. Promoting Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment
Women and girls are at the center of our development approach. We believe that when women are empowered, entire communities benefit. In Kisumu and Nairobi, we have supported women’s groups, providing them with micro-loans to start small businesses, and offering training in financial literacy and leadership. These programs have empowered over 1,500 women, enabling them to become economic drivers in their communities and improve their families’ living standards.
6. Advocating for Sustainable Development
Environmental sustainability is integral to our mission. In all our projects, we prioritize eco-friendly practices, such as promoting agroforestry, conserving water resources, and encouraging the use of renewable energy. In Turkana, our reforestation efforts have resulted in the planting of over 10,000 trees, contributing to environmental conservation and combating desertification.

Our key contributions to the society
- Increased access to education in emergencies for children, youth, women disadvantaged persons, and refugees. This was possible through lobby mobilization and sensitization across partners and community engagement.
- Promote innovative household economic strengthening targeting Household girl-headed Households, female and youth-headed households. This has been successful through community girl-led processes. We have designed various programs that have delivered this objective through
A. For Households – Enhanced asset ownership and food security, climate smart agriculture and gender equality
B. Community – resilience to economic shocks and girl-cantered government sectors by supporting them in delivering expected services
C. Markets – Increased leadership capacities and increased decision-making among minority household heads.
D. Basic Employability skills – Training, apprenticeship, skills delivery and linkage to employment opportunities for the youth, training and mentorship in VSLA, SILC, table banking, and other microfinance avenues. - Advocacy for proper and equitable allocation and utilization of state resources for the realization of economic, social, and cultural rights through organized civic forums to increase diminished civic space and positive influence of policies relating to state resources. This was largely a governance leadership and decision-making component that we have integrated into all our programs. Civic education, drafting of memoranda, and petitions, and facilitated community scorecards.
- Support for and strengthen community projects for Resilience and sustainable diversified livelihoods by offering training, mentorship, provision of inputs, and managing and archiving new knowledge. This is correctly done through modern knowledge management and learning approaches, low-tech agriculture, agroecology, fish farming, Kitchen gardening, learning, and trade fairs.
- Ensuring Institutionalization, strengthening, and commitment to the course for effective service delivery and committed accountability in governing authorities and communities – Through community-led advocacy and social accountability. There was also strengthened engagement between duty bearers and rights holders through structured social audits and accountability and administration of community scorecards with a view to contributing to effective service delivery.
